ALCOHOL INKS WORKSHOP

with artist: JUNE SULLIVAN

June Sullivan has kindly stepped in at short notice to run the Alcohol Ink Workshop for us.

As well as being an artist, June is also an avid SCUBA diver and underwater photographer. Her work is often inspired by nature, especially her love of the ocean. By combining two of her passions, diving and painting, her speciality is creating unique underwater scenes, working from both memory and photographs, and sometimes just pure imagination.

June regularly holds art demonstrations and workshops. Small private groups of up to six people can be catered for at her residence.

We will experiment and play, not necessarily produce a finished artwork.

What you need:

  • Visual diary or workbook to paint in
  • Pencil, Ruler, Pen, Water pot, Palette
  • Flat paint brush about 1cm or similar

  • Burnt Umber

If you have other versions of each colour, bring them as well: a variety of reds, blues yellows and Payne’s grey. You do not need to go out and buy these.

SUNDAY JULY 12, 2020 WORKSHOP

PORTRAIT WITH A DIFFERENCE with Sandra Troncone

(Sandra – the club president – has offered to run this “comeback” workshop)

Have you ever wanted to paint a self portrait but are no good at faces? Well here is your chance to think outside the square: a portrait is in itself a portrayal of an individual and it can be defined in many different ways, such as:

  • A collection of your favourite things
  • The content of your handbag
  • Favourite flower, food or place, painted in your favourite colour
  • Or, whatever makes you….YOU!

At this workshop, we will discuss different ways of constructing a portrait using objects that describe the person.

If you prefer to be a bit more traditional you can bring a photo of someone to paint, but be prepared to add other items and maybe a different palette to achieve a unique result and show someone’s true colours.

What to bring:

  • Your favourite medium and equipment, e.g. acrylics, canvas, paper, watercolour, mixed media items such as sequins for a dancer, book pages for an avid reader, etc.
  • Items that define the person, e.g.: favourite things, photos of locations, photo of the person, flowers, handbag, purse, favourite shoes… you get the idea.
  • Research and imagination: think about who you want to paint, write down what things make them who they are and bring your ideas along.

Come along to have some fun and try something new!

Sandra Troncone
